Driveway Replacement
Driveway Replacement
Some driveways are past the point where a patch or a resurface makes sense. When the base underneath has failed, when cracking has spread across most of the surface, or when a driveway has simply reached the end of its service life, full replacement is the honest answer, even though it costs more than a quick fix.
We replace driveways across Prince William and Fauquier counties, and we’re upfront when a repair or resurface would actually hold, since not every driveway we’re called out to needs a full tear out.
01
Demolition and Removal
We break out and haul away the old asphalt or concrete surface, along with any failed base material underneath. This is where we get the clearest look at what actually caused the original driveway to fail, whether it was a thin base, poor drainage, or simply decades of wear.
What we find during demolition shapes how we build the replacement, so nothing about the old failure repeats itself.
02
Base Rebuild and Drainage
A failed driveway almost always means a failed base, so we excavate to the correct depth and rebuild with properly compacted crushed stone, typically 6 to 8 inches for asphalt or 4 to 6 inches under concrete. We also correct any grading or drainage issues that contributed to the original failure, since replacing the surface without fixing the drainage just restarts the same clock.
03
New Surface Installation
With the base rebuilt, we install the new driveway surface, asphalt, concrete, or pavers depending on what you’ve chosen, finished and jointed or compacted to current standards. The result is a driveway built to last, not just a fresh layer over the same problems that caused the last one to fail.
Driveway Replacement Questions
What Northern Virginia Homeowners Ask
How Do I Know If My Driveway Needs Replacement Instead of Repair?
Widespread cracking across most of the surface, multiple potholes that keep reopening after patching, and visible sinking or heaving are all signs the base has failed and a patch won’t hold. A driveway with isolated damage and a solid base usually just needs repair or resurfacing instead.
How Long Does Driveway Replacement Take?
Most residential driveway replacements take three to five days from demolition to the finished surface, depending on the driveway’s size and whether drainage corrections are part of the job.
Can I Switch Materials During Driveway Replacement?
Yes. Replacement is often when homeowners switch from asphalt to concrete, or add pavers for a different look, since the base is being rebuilt regardless of which surface goes on top.
What Happens to the Old Driveway Material?
We haul away and dispose of or recycle the old asphalt or concrete as part of the replacement job, so there’s nothing left for you to deal with once the project starts.
Is Driveway Replacement Cheaper Than I'd Expect?
Replacement costs more than a patch or sealcoat, but it’s often comparable to or less than the total cost of repeated repairs on a failing driveway over several years. We give you a written quote so you can compare the real numbers rather than guessing.

Repair Or Replace
Repair, Resurface, or Replace: What Your Northern Virginia Driveway Needs
Isolated potholes or cracks on a driveway with a solid base usually just need repair. Surface wear across a driveway with a good base is often a candidate for resurfacing instead of full replacement. Widespread failure, sinking, or a base that’s clearly given out calls for replacement. We’ll tell you honestly which category your driveway falls into before recommending the most expensive option.
